Women's Soccer Plays Scoreless Draw With LMU
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba and visiting Lincoln Memorial played to a scoreless draw in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Friday afternoon at the Frock Soccer Complex. The tie leaves Catawba with a 6-7-2 mark overall and a 5-4-2 slate in the SAC. The Lady Railsplitters end their season at 3-10-2 and 2-7-2. Catawba will be on the road at a site to be determined on Tuesday in the opening round of the SAC Tournament.
Catawba held a 15-10 edge in shots and had a 7-4 advantage in corners, but neither team could score. Shannon Hardy (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) made six saves for Catawba, while Kathryn Lundy stopped seven shots for LMU.
The Lady Indians played most of the second half and the overtime shorthanded as Shelby Vasich (Chatsworth, Calif./El Camino Real) was issued a red card in the 51st minute. The Lady Indians had several chances down a player, the best a header from Erin Feldman (Charlotte, N.C./Olympic) off a cross from Jenny Lux (Mooresville, N.C./Pine Lake Prep) that was saved in the 58th minute.
Caitlin Hill (Advance, N.C./E. Forsyth) had a shot saved in the 77th minute and Lux floated a 20-yard shot from the right over the keeper that glanced off the back post with just over a minute to play. The Lady Railsplitters best chance came just three minutes into overtime, but Hardy parried a shot from Hanna Ratliff over the bar.
The Lady Indians will be the sixth or seventh seed depending on the outcome of the Anderson-Mars Hill match on Saturday. If Anderson loses, Catawba will be the sixth seed. A win or tie by Anderson would push Catawba to the #7 seed.
