Proch Named SAC Men's Soccer Freshman of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSac.com) -- Daniele Proch (Arco, Italy) headlines four Catawba men’s soccer players earning post-season awards from the South Atlantic Conference. Proch, a midfielder, earned the league’s Freshman of the Year award, leading the Catawba Indians to a top four finish. He is the first Catawba men’s soccer player to be named the league Freshman of the Year.
Proch was also named to the All-SAC Second Team along with senior defender Matt Wilkinson (Leeds, England). Senior midfielder Ian Orr (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman) and junior defender Philipp Hollenhorst (Muenster, Germany) earned honorable mention honors.
Proch led the Indians in scoring with eight goals and seven assists on the season. He currently ranks sixth in the SAC in goals and fifth in assists. Proch provided three game-winning goals which came in victories over Mount Olive, Newberry and #7 Tusculum and scored three goals in a win over Coker.
Wilkinson and Hollenhorst both started all 17 matches for Catawba. They helped the defense to three shutouts and a 1.51 goals against average. Wilkinson picked up an assist on a goal in a win over Newberry. Hollenhorst tallied a pair of goals with game-winners against Lees-McRae and Carson-Newman.
Orr was second to Proch on the team with five goals and added a pair of assists. Orr also had three game-winners which came against Coker, Queens and Lincoln Memorial.
Lenoir-Rhyne forward Ismael Noumansana was voted Player of the Year, while Wingate mentor Gary Hamill was tabbed the Coach of the Year.
Noumansana ranks among the national leaders in several offensive categories. He found the back of the net 15 times this season to rank No. 10 in Division II, while his seven game-winners were good for No. 3 in the country. Noumansana recorded five multi-goal games on the year as well as a hat trick at Mars Hill on Oct. 5.
Hamill earns his seventh Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Bulldogs to their third-straight regular season championship. The title marked Wingate’s seventh SAC Championship overall.
