Women's Golf picks up first-ever team win

ANDERSON, SC – The Catawba College women’s golf team made history on Tuesday, winning a tournament for the first time in the five years of the program. The Lady Indians earned the title at the Anderson Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday afternoon at the 5,820-yard, par-72 Brookstone Meadows Golf Club. Catawba shot a two-day total of 669, defeating Lincoln Memorial by four strokes. Catawba was led by senior Kristen Kyle (Greer, SC), who finished in a tie for second, falling in a three-way playoff for individual medalist honors. Kyle fired a school-record 73 on Monday’s opening round and followed with an 84 on Tuesday. Annabel Fernandez, of Lincoln Memorial, won the playoff, which also included Martina Moo Young, of Wingate. Fernandez had rounds of 76 and 81. Sophomore Paige Haverty (Greenville, NC) had a pair of 79s to finish fourth, while freshman Melissa Kepley (Statesville, NC) was 16th, shooting rounds of 89 and 84.
