Fitzgerald posts shutout for Men's Soccer in 5-0 win

LAURINBURG, NC – The Catawba College men’s soccer team moved to 2-0-1 with a 5-0 shutout of host St. Andrews on Wednesday afternoon. Zay-Zay Gilewala (Monrovia, LIBERIA) had a pair of goals, while Felipe Rubio (Miami, FL) had a goal and two assists to lead the Tribe. The Knight fell to 1-4. Rubio provided all his scoring in the opening half, scoring the opening goal at the 7:13 mark and adding two assists. His first assist was on a goal by Nathan Zuzga (Troy, MI), who had assisted on Rubio’s goal. The second helper came on Gilewala’s first goal at the 35:11 mark. Ross Goffi (Strongsville, OH) scored ten minutes into the second half, while Gilewala added his second at the 66:11 mark. St. Andrews never got anything going offensively, only getting four shots and two corner kicks. Freshman goaltender Hal Tate kept the Knights in the game making nine of his ten saves in the first half. Indian keeper Dan Fitzgerald (Seaford, DE) only needed to make two saves for the shutout in goal. CATAWBA (2-0-1) 3 2 -- 5 ST.
