Men's Basketball Falls to Anderson
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Anderson canned nearly 65% of its second-half shots and took a 73-67 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Trojans improve to 11-13 overall and 9-9 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians drop to 16-8 and 10-8.
The Trojans led by three at the half and its hot shooting never let Catawba go in front. The Indians would pull even at 52-all on a pair of free throws by Jameel Taylor (Anderson, S.C./Hanna) with 10:01 to go, but a three-pointer by Shawn Bernard started a 9-2 run that pushed Anderson up by seven with six minutes left.
Catawba got within four several times in the final minutes, but couldn’t cut the lead to a single possession. The Trojans hit on eight straight at the line in the final three minutes to salt away the win.
Randall Shaw scored 21 points to pace Anderson. Carols Dotson followed with 15 points and Lex Davis had 14. Maurice Howard delivered 12 points and five assists.
Jerrin Morrison (Charlotte, N.C./E. Mecklenburg) led Catawba once again with 18 points and seven rebounds. Taylor tossed in 14 points, going 10-for-10 at the line, and Troy Warren (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman) chipped in with 11 points and eight boards.
Catawba travels to Queens to take on the nationally-ranked Royals on Wednesday at 8 pm.
