Fanzo Scores Four Goals in Loss to Mount Olive
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Mount Olive collected a 16-10 win over host Catawba in men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The tenth-ranked Trojans win their opener, while the Catawba Indians fall to 1-2.
The teams went back-and-forth early with Catawba going up 3-1 late in the second quarter with Cole Fanzo (Crofton, Md./S. River) picking up two of the goals. The Trojans rebounded and tallied the last three of the quarter, including Jesse Mitchell’s goal with just four second left for a 4-3 lead.
The Indians tied it in the second from Chase Scott (Charlotte, N.C./S. Mecklenburg), but Mount Olive had four of the next five goals to lead 8-5 at the break. The Trojans out-scored Catawba 3-2 in the third quarter then spurted out to a 14-8 edge after Luke Dalman’s goal with 9:22 left.
Fanzo led Catawba with four goals. Dalton Cook (St. Augustine's, Fla./Bartram Trail) scored twice, while Joe Barber (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) collected three assists. Trevor Bellotte (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had a goal and two assists, while Ryan Applegate (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) made a dozen saves.
Brett Kingston and Austin Whitlow each had three goals for Mount Olive. Jesse Mitchell scored twice and Jacob Ball produced two assists. Will Urban had nine saves in goal for the Trojans.
Catawba will host Pfeiffer on Wednesday at 4 pm.
