Cook and Fanzo Post Four Goals Each in Win Over Chowan
MURFREESBORO, N.C. -- Catawba rolled to a 19-7 win over host Chowan in men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 3-2, while the Hawks fall to 0-3.
Cole Fanzo (Crofton, Md./S. River) and Dalton Cook (St. Augustine's, Fla./Bartram Trail) led the Indians as each tallied four goals. Fanzo added a pair of assists. Ethan Jarrett (Roebuck, S.C./Dorman) and Tony Bellotte (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) both had two goals.
Fanzo scored three straight goals late in the first quarter to give Catawba a 5-1 edge. The Indians scored the first four goals of the second quarter to move their lead to 9-2 and led 11-4 at the break. It was 18-5 midway through the fourth quarter before Chowan pulled a couple of goals back.
Noah Holloway led Chowan with four goals. The Indians dominated the stats with a 64-18 edge in shots and a 51-30 advantage in ground balls. Catawba won 24 of the 29 face-offs with Jarrett winning 12 of 16 and Xavier Hare (Cleveland, Ohio/Charlotte (NC) Secondary) going 11-for-12.
Catawba travels to Queens next Saturday to open conference play against the Royals at 1 pm.
