Pezzulo Scores Twice in Women's Lacrosse Loss to Queens
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Queens, ranked seventh in NCAA II, claimed a 16-4 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women’s lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex. The Royals improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-2 and 0-1.
Freshman Gianna Pezzulo (Henniker, N.C./Cushing Academy) scored two of Catawba’s four goals. Kirstyn Kruse (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Williston Northampton Prep) picked up a goal with an assist. Freshman Jillian Kurolvech (Clarkston, Md./Clarkston) had the other goal for the Lady Indians, while Crista Clayton (Jacksonville Beach, Fla./Fletcher) had an assist.
Kelly Dowd and Ally Blood each scored three goals for Queens. Blood added two assists. Alexandra Bruder scored two goals with two assists for the Royals.
Queens scored the opening goal just over three minutes into the game, but Catawba kept the Royals from adding to the lead until the midpoint of the half. Queens would take control with six goals over a five-minute span to lead 6-0 at the 10:13 mark.
Pezzulo scored the first Catawba goal with 9:48 to go and Kruse tallied just before the half to make it 10-2 at the break. The Royals held a 29-16 edge in shots and won 13 of the 21 draw controls.
Catawba will entertain UVA-Wise at Shuford Stadium on Sunday at 1 pm.
