Men's Lacrosse Drops 11-5 Decision to Bentley
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Visiting Bentley took an 11-5 win over Catawba in men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Falcons improve to 1-1, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-4.
Bentley scored the opening four goals and never trailed. Catawba got as close as 4-1 and 5-2, but trailed 8-2 at the break.
The Falcons dominated statistically. Bentley outshot Catawba 46-18, held a 45-17 edge in ground balls and won 16 of 19 face offs.
Scott Carvalho had two of the early goals for Bentley as the Falcons built the early lead over the opening 10 minutes. Cole Fanzo (Crofton, Md./S. River) and Justin Warnock (Jamestown, N.C./SW Guilford) had goals for Catawba in the opening quarter, but trailed 6-2 after 15 minutes. Bentley had the only two goals of the second quarter.
Catawba played Bentley even on the scoreboard in the second half, but couldn’t make up any ground. Warnock scored three of Catawba’s goals. Ryan Applegate (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) stopped 14 shots in goal for the Indians.
Carvalho had three goals for Bentley, who got scores from nine different players. Max Adler went 16-of-19 in the face-off circle, scooped up 10 ground balls and scored a goal.
Catawba returns to league action on Saturday, hosting Lincoln Memorial at 3 pm.
