Men's Lacrosse Falls at Tusculum
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- A 9-1 spurt, spanning the second to fourth quarter, propelled host Tusculum to a 14-8 win over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field. The Pioneers improve to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 5-5 and 2-2.
Liam Lynch (Marietta, Ga./Pope) had tied the game at 3-3 for Catawba with his goal at the 10:07 mark of the second quarter. Tusculum started its run on a goal by Andrew Kransberger with 6:58 to go in the half and the Pioneers led 6-3 at the break.
Joe Barber (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) stopped the four-goal run by Tusculum to make it 7-4 at the 8:27 mark of the third, but the Pioneers added five more to go up 12-4. Nate Wade had two of those five goals. Lynch cut the margin to 13-7 with 4:52 remaining and added another with 2:40 to go, but the deficit was too much to make up.
Lynch led Catawba with three goals. Barber had a goal and an assist while causing two turnovers. Ryan Applegate (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) came up with 11 saves.
Liam Macdonald and Chris Ryan each tallied three goals for Tusculum. Kransberger had two goals and assist, while Ben Boyd had a goal and two assists. Kevin Haggerty stopped 12 shots in goal.
Catawba will host Coker at Shuford Stadium on Wednesday at 7 pm.
