Kitchens Lands on Two Preseason All-America Teams

Catawba senior linebacker Kyle Kitchens (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) has been named to the Street & Smith’s Preseason All-America team and was a second team pick by Lindy’s Sports.  Kitchens has earned All-America honors in each of his last two seasons and was the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year in 2015 in helping the Catawba Indians to a league title and the NCAA II Playoffs.

Kitchens racked up eight and half sacks last season and was in on 16 stops for losses.  In three seasons, the senior has posted 26.5 sacks with 48 stops for losses.

While none of Catawba’s 2017 opponents were ranked by Street & Smith’s, three teams were among those listed by Lindy’s.  The Indians will face the first of those on September 16 when they travel to face ninth-ranked UNC Pembroke at 7 p.m.

The other two on the list will travel to Shuford Stadium to meet Catawba.  North Greenville, ranked 16th, is the opponent on October 7 and Newberry, who is tabbed 21st, comes to Salisbury on November 4th.  Both of those home games kickoff at 1:30 p.m.

Catawba will open its season at home on Thursday, August 31st against St. Augustine’s at 7 p.m.
