Men's Soccer falls 3-1 at UNC-Pembroke

PEMBROKE, NC – Catawba College fell to host UNC-Pembroke 3-1 in men’s soccer action on Saturday night. The loss drops Catawba to 5-2-1, while the Braves improve to 8-0. Trond Myrland's scored a pair of goals and added an assist to help close the door on a closely contested non-conference match-up. Myrland scored his first goal off a Christoph Schiessl pass in the 21st minute, then returned the favor in the 61st minute, assisting on a Schiessl goal that increased the lead to 2-0. Kenny Crowe (Reeders, PA) pulled the Tribe within a goal with 28 minutes remaining, but the Indians could not get any closer. In the 66th minute, Myrland scored a controversial goal to give UNCP a 3-1 lead, a goal that could have been whistled for offsides. Catawba had a goal of its own called back for offsides that would have cut the deficit to 3-2. Catawba out-shot the Braves 14-11 but Alex Hall came up with five saves for UNCP.
