Singhgolden Scores in 3-1 Loss to Mount Olive


SALISBURY, N.C. -- Mount Olive scored three times over the final 18 minutes to take a 3-1 win over host Catawba in men’s soccer action on Wednesday at the Frock Soccer Complex. The Trojans improve to 1-1, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-2.

For the second straight match, Catawba took a one-goal advantage. Tyus Lopez took a ball just inside the top of the box and fed a pass to freshman Tom Singhgolden, who fired home from near the penalty spot for the lead in the 67th minute.

The Trojan came back on a pair of goals off rebounds. Anthony Wren got the tying goal in the 73rd minute as he pounced home a rebound off a shot that bounded off a Catawba defender. Sam Murphy put Mount Olive on top as he tapped home a rebound off a save from keeper Trey Orner in the 78th minute.  

Mount Olive put the match away in the with just over four minutes remaining when Sebastian Loibl finally scored after a scramble in the Catawba box. Orner had saved two shots and another had bounced off the post before Loibl put home the goal.

Orner finished with six saves for Catawba. Preston Snyder collected a pair of saves for the Trojans.

Catawba returns to action on Saturday as the Indians Belmont Abbey for a 3:30 kickoff.
