Volleyball Drops Match to Lenoir Rhyne
SALISBURY, N.C. - - The Catawba Lady Indians dropped their South Atlantic Conference match with Lenoir-Rhyne in three sets Tuesday in Goodman Gymnasium. The Bears took the sets 26-24, 25-16, and 25-18 dropping Catawba to 3-15 for the season and 1-13 in the conference.
Micah Ensor led Catawba with eight kills and 10 digs. Jade Brooks added seven kills and Kimberly Hurtado recorded six. Morgan Hester dished out 20 assists and Allison Benton collected 12 digs and two service aces.
Catawba tied the first set at 12 on an Ensor kill and took the lead on an error for the Bears. The Indians kept the lead going up by four at 24-20. Three straight errors for Catawba put Lenoir-Rhyne back in the set and a Bears’ kill tied it at 24 all. The Indians were unable to score again as Lenoir-Rhyne had two straight kills to finish the set.
The Indians got off balance in the second and could not answer the attack of the Bears going down by 10 at 8-18. Catawba’s offense could not get started recording only seven kills in the set hitting for just three percent.
Lenoir-Rhyne kept Catawba from getting back in a groove in the third set jumping out to an early lead. The Indians offense continued to struggle as they tallied just eight kills in the last set of the match.
Catawba is back in action in Goodman Gym on Friday evening as they host a South Atlantic Conference match against Lincoln Memorial.
