Errors Hurt Volleyball in Loss to Lincoln Memorial
SALISBURY, N.C. - - Catawba Lady Indians lost their South Atlantic Conference match against Lincoln Memorial University on Friday night in Goodman Gymnasium. The Railsplitters took the match 3-1 with the scores of 19-25, 29-27, 23-25, and 20-25. Catawba falls to 3-16 on the season and 1-14 in the conference.
The Lady Indians were led by Macy Eidenberger’s 10 kills, eight digs, and four blocking assists. Micah Ensor added nine kills and 10 digs. Jade Brooks contributed eight kills and Allie Grubb and Kimberly Hurtado each recorded seven. Morgan Hester and Rachel Stanford handed out 28 and 10 assists respectively. Abby Benton led the defense tallying 14 digs.
Catawba led in the middle of the first set 15-13 but four straight errors gave the Railsplitters a two point lead at 15-17. Lincoln Memorial finished out the first set utilizing five more errors by the Indians and outscoring Catawba eight to four.
The Indians used two consecutive errors by the Railsplitters to take a 19-18 lead in the second set. Kills by Hurtado and Eidenberger and another Lincoln Memorial error gave Catawba a 23-19 lead. Neither team wanted to surrender the set forcing the set to go beyond 25. The last tie came at 27 all after a kill by Brooks. An Eidenberger kill and a service ace by Abby Benton finished out the set and gave Catawba the win.
Catawba started out rocky in third set but fought and was able to tie it at 20 all. The Indians and Railsplitters traded errors to tie the set again at 21. Two kills for Lincoln Memorial put them up 23-21, but a Railsplitter error and a service ace by Allison Benton tied the game once more at 23. Two errors for the Indians finished out the set putting Lincoln Memorial on top 25-23 and 2-1 in the match.
The Indians jumped out early in the fourth game taking a 10-5 lead. Catawba gave up five errors to help Lincoln Memorial come back to tie the set at 13. The Railsplitters took the lead and closed out the game and match as the Indians could not regain the lead.
Catawba is back in Goodman Gymnasium for another South Atlantic Conference match as they host Carson-Newman at 2 pm.
