Women's Lacrosse Surges in Second Half to Top Converse
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Freshman Brooklyn Tilley scored five goals to help host Catawba to a 16-6 win over Converse on Thursday night at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians level their record at 1-1, while the Valkyries fall to 2-1.
Catawba opened with a 5-1 lead as Tilley scored twice in the opening 10 minutes. Converse battled back, scoring three of the next four goals to close within 6-4. Tilley scored with a minute to go in the first half then started a big run for Catawba in the second half.
The Lady Indians posted a shutout for the first 24 minutes of the second half as they increased their lead to 15-4. Erin Green had three of her four goals in the final half.
Gianna Pezzulo joined Green with four goals and added an assist. Nicole Hunt had one goal and three assists, while Becky Frost had a goal and two helpers. Kat Goldfuss was the only player with multiple goals, scoring twice. Caitlyn Johnson notched 10 saves in goal.
Catawba travels to UVa-Wise on Sunday for a 2 pm start.
