Baseball Drops Game Three to Shippensburg
SALISBURY, N.C. -- The Catawba Indians dropped game three of the series to Shippensburg on Sunday afternoon in Newman Park. Catawba fell 4-6 to the visiting Raiders, dropping the Indians to 3-9 while Shippensburg improves to 1-2.
Chance Bowden, Jackson Raper, and Jacob Nester all had two hits for the Indians offense. Kyle Smith added a hit for Catawba and scored two of the four runs. Dalton Hoiles led the Raiders with three hits.
Catawba scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Lee Poteat led off the half-inning with a single and advanced to third on a double by Raper. Cameron Morrison grounded out to score Poteat for the first run of the game. Nester followed with a single to right center to score Raper for the second run.
Shippensburg put five runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Indians threatened to score in the fifth and sixth innings, stranding two and three runners respectively.
Catawba added a run in the seventh inning to cut the lead to two. The Raiders got the run back in the top of the eighth to increase their advantage to three runs. The Indians struck again in the ninth, but could only score one run while leaving two on base.
Catawba will travel to Mount Olive for a mid-week game on Tuesday at 3 pm.
