Baseball Tops Mount Olive in Midweek Game
MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - - Catawba topped host Mount Olive 9-4 in baseball action on Tuesday at Scarborough Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 4-9, while Mount Olive drops to 5-3.

each had three hits for the Indians’ offense.
Catawba put four runs on the board in the first inning. Luke Setzer
led off the game reaching first on a Mount Olive error. Mitchem doubled down the left field line to score Setzer. Jackson Raper
was walked and Cameron Morrison
was hit by a pitch to score the second run of the game. Nester hit a two-out single up the middle to score two more runs for the Indians in the top of the first.
The Indians’ defense held Mount Olive scoreless, while adding four more runs in the top of the third. Raper was walked to lead off the inning and then stole second base. Morrison walked to put runners on first and second. Joe Butts
laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Nester singled to right field to score Raper. Kyle Smith singled to right center for two runs batted in. Setzer added the fourth run, scoring on a fielding error that allowed Cameron Bowden to reach first base.
Mount Olive posted their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Catawba answered with another run in the top of the sixth. The Trojans put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth and one more in the bottom of the seventh.
The Indians will return to Newman Park to begin conference play as they host Coker in their first South Atlantic Conference series of the season. The first game of the series is set for Friday evening at 6 pm.
