Softball Loses Both Ends of Doubleheader With Young Harris


SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba took losses against Young Harris a softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Whitley Field. Catawba would lose game one 9-3 and fall in game two 7-2. Catawba stands at 8-6 on the season, while Young Harris is 11-6.

Game 1:
Young Harris would score the first run of the game in the third inning. Murphy Davis would tag up on a fly out to score.

Catawba would score two runs in the third to gain the lead. Allie Baker doubled to left field scoring Kaylee Cook. The second run would come home on a fielder’s choice hit by Taylor Martin and Baker would score.

Young Harris and Catawba would both add another run to their score in the fourth inning. The score going into the fifth would be 3-2 with Catawba having the lead.

Young Harris would rally to add four runs in the seventh inning off of three hits. Hannah Harrison would score on a passed ball. Grace Botti would score off a single that was hit to right field by Davis. Madison Urquiola would score on error made by the first basemen and Kristan Lizardi scored on a passed ball.

Kennedy Kotula improved to 4-2 with the win for Young Harris. She gave up three runs off six hits with three strikeouts over a complete game. Anna Jasper took the loss for Catawba in relief.

Game 2:
Young Harris would lead off putting two runs on the board in the first. Hailey Shope singled to right center scoring Davis. Their second run would come from Jill Torres who hit a sacrifice fly scoring Emily Harris.

Catawba scored their only two runs of the game in fifth inning. Carlee Brawley would ground out to second base to score Sydney Goertzen. Allie Baker would ground out to second base as well to score Leah Huggins.

Most of the Mountain Lions’ runs came in the seventh inning as they pushed across four run. Shope would single to center and Alderman scored followed by Davis who scored on an error. Torres would single to center field scoring Georgia Webb and Shope. 

Brooke Walser dropped her record at 3-4 with the game two loss. She threw seven innings and allowed nine hits. Dharma Rosbrugh took the win for the Mountain Lions. She struck out two in the complete game.

Catawba will travel to Limestone for a 1 pm doubleheader on Thursday.
