Men's Lacrosse Falls at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. -- Host Wingate held Catawba to one second-half goal in posting a 12-5 win in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Gill Field. Both teams now stand at 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the SAC.

Wingate had used a 5-1 spurt to go on top 5-2 midway through the second quarter. The Indians used a pair of goals over the final eight minutes to close within 5-4 at the break.

The Bulldogs scored all three goals in the third quarter then added three more in the opening 5:12 of the fourth to surge ahead 11-4. Justin Warnock stopped the run at the 9:16 mark of the final quarter, but the would be all the scoring for Catawba the rest of the way.

Joe Barber led Catawba with two goals. Warnock had a goal and an assist. Also picking up goals for the Indians was Cole Fanzo and Jared Richard. Kevin Geiger stopped nine shots.

Alex Llerandi tallied three goals for Wingate. Josh Ferentinos had two goals and two assists, while Jeremy Sullivan and Seth Grimwood posted a pair of goals. Ryan Ahrens recorded 11 saves in the pipes.

Catawba travels to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday for a 3 pm match up with the Railsplitters.
