Women's Lacrosse Stays Unbeaten in SAC Play with Win at LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Catawba scored three goals over the final four minutes to escape Lincoln Memorial with a 12-9 win in South Atlantic Conference women’s lacrosse action on Saturday at the LMU Lacrosse Complex. The Catawba Indians move to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while the Railsplitters fall to 4-3 and 1-2.

Lincoln Memorial had scored three straight goals to tie the game at 9-all with 7:47 remaining before Catawba answered with its final push. Following the Erin DePaul goal that pulled the Railsplitters even, Madison Anselmo came up with a pair saves to keep the game tied. The last came on a free-position shot that led to a quick counter and the go ahead goal from Katie Barth with 3:29 left.

Imani Grays added a free-position goal a minute later, the last of her team-high four goals, and Nicole Hunt capped the win on a man-up goal with 38 ticks left. It marked the fifth win for Catawba in its last six outings.

Catawba never trailed and used an early three-goal spurt to go up 4-1 after seven minutes. LMU tied the game at 4-4, but the Lady Indians eased out 7-5 at the half. Back-to-back goals from Grays gave Catawba its 9-6 edge with 16:27 to go before LMU reeled off its three goals to tie.

Barth scored three goals for Catawba with Hunt adding two goals and two assists. Hannah Scott scored twice with an assist, while causing two turnovers and grabbing four ground balls and winning draw controls. Alnselmo finished with nine saves, six in the second half.

Casey Kelly led LMU with three goals and two assists. DePaul also had three goals. Shannon Novak collected 14 saves in goal for the Railsplitters.

Catawba will head to Coker on Wednesday for a 4 pm game in Hartsville, S.C.
