Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Mars Hill
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba rolled to a 20-4 win over visiting Mars Hill in South Atlantic Conference women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians improve to 9-5 overall and stay perfect in conference play at 5-0 in the SAC. The Lions fall to 2-7 and 0-4.
Gianna Pezzulo and Erin Green each scored two goals over the first five and half minutes as the Lady Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Olivia Hokanson scored one of her three goals for Mars Hill at the 22:45 mark before Catawba reeled off seven in a row to take command at 11-1.
The Lady Indians posted a 14-2 lead at the break and cruised the rest of the way. Pezzulo and Brooklyn Tilley led Catawba with four goals, while Pezzulo added three assists. Green, who helped on three goals, and Katie Barth, who had one assist, both contributed three goals.
Also scoring multi goals for Catawba were Jillian Kurolvech and Nicole Hunt, both with two goals. Hunt caused four turnovers and scooped up eight ground balls. Hannah Scott also caused four turnovers. Madison Anselmo and Grace Brennen shared a half in goal. Anselmo posted four saves in the opening half with Brennen stopping three shots in half number two.
Hokanson led Mars Hill with four goals and won 10 draw controls. Rebecca Dallman had the other goal for the Lions. Molly Tobias won six draw controls, while Alexandria Holleran recorded six saves.
Catawba will next face off against the SAC’s other unbeaten league team in Lenoir-Rhyne as the Lady Indians hosts the Bears on April 11 at 4 pm.
