Women's Golf Stays 10th Entering Final Round of SAC Championships


ELGIN, S.C. -- Catawba remained in 10th place after two rounds of the South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championships on Monday. The three-day tournament concludes with a third round tomorrow at the 5,830-yard, par-72 Members Club at Woodcreek.

Catawba fired an identical 338 as its opening round and did make up two shots on Newberry, who sits in ninth. Catawba has a 676 two-round total to 673 for Newberry.

Wingate pulled away to a 19-shot lead entering the final rounds as the Bulldogs followed an opening 310 with a 316 on Monday which was eight shots better than any other team. Wingate’s total of 628 leads both Anderson and Tusculum, who have posted 647 scores.

Wingate’s Warissa Puangcharoen and Cameron Smith, of Queens, share the individual lead with a 154 total. They are a shot better than Cydney Murrell, of Tusculum, and Anderson’s Kate Hill.  Kaley Barts has the best Catawba score as she is in 27th with a 167 total. Madison Moore and Victoria Hedrick are a shot back in 30th.
