Wingate Downs Indians 5-1
SALISBURY, N.C. – Wingate defeated Catawba 5-1 in men’s soccer action at Frock Field Wednesday.
Junior Hunter Faust
recorded his team leading third goal in the 88th minute, trimming the Indians’ (1-8-0, 0-6-0) deficit to 5-1. Sophomore Tom Singhgolden
recorded his first assist of the season, when he fed Faust from the near post to the center of the 18-yard box.
Nate Evans opened the scoring for the Bulldogs (5-2-1, 3-1-0 SAC) when he tapped in a cross from Oscar Perez at the far post in the 32nd minute. Marco Sellen gathered in a pass from Soren Nygaard and scored from 15-yards out at the 47:23 mark.
Oscar Perez and Federico Andreani turned the game into a rout when they added tallies 11 seconds apart.
Perez got his foot to a pass from Harry Taylor at 67:14, making the score 3-0. Andreani increased the lead to 4-0, when he intercepted a pass off the ensuing kick-off, drove the length of the pitch and beat Catawba netminder, Andrew Bargh
Evans made the score 5-0 when he added a breakaway tally in the 86th minute.
Inside the numbers:
- Wingate outshot Catawba 24-11 and doubled up the Indians in corner kicks 6-3.
- The Bulldogs were called for 14 fouls, while Catawba was whistled for 11.
- Pablo Jara, Wingate’s keeper, made six saves.
