Golf Announces Committments for 2019-20


SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba College golf coach, Sam Gealy, has announced the signing of five additions to the program for the fall of 2019. Joining the women’s team will be Alice Sylven, of Stockholm, Sweden, and Tyler Price, from Nebo, N.C. The men have three new players in Chase Clayton, of Locust, N.C., Jack Coates, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Riley Smith, of Concord, N.C.

Sylven has had a very good junior career in Sweden with numerous top finishes in her tournament schedule. She already has a familiar player on the Catawba team in Sandra Brink who hails from the Stockholm area.

Price has been an outstanding player at McDowell High School and helped the Titans to the NCHSAA Championship. McDowell has been all-conference for three years.

Clayton, from West Stanley High School, is the son of from Catawba golf standout Chad Clayton. Clayton has played in junior events in the CGA, TYGA and the Winternational Tour where he has earned several victories. He has earned all-conference each year and has been an individual qualifier for the state tournament.

Coates is solid member of the West Forsyth High School squad. He has not played in many junior events, but show promise to be a solid player and a contributor to the program.

Smith, from Robinson High School, has had an extensive junior career and played in numerous CGA and TYGA tournaments. He has posted several high finishes and should make an immediate contribution.

Catawba is scheduled to open the 2019-20 season in the Anderson Invitational at Cobbs Glen Country Club in early September.
