Turner Named SAC AstroTurf Track Athlete of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Darius Turner was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Coker’s Alex Berry was named AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested March 18 through March 24. It was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Turner, a freshman from Burlington, N.C., posted the fourth best time in NCAA Division II in the 100-meter dash at 10.48 seconds. His time was an NCAA provisional mark and it earned him second place honors at the High Point VertKlasse meet last week. In addition to his second place finish in the 100m, Turner anchored the 4x100 relay team that finished second with a time of 41.20 seconds.
Berry, a sophomore from Latta, S.C., won both the high jump and the triple jump at last week’s CIU Invitational. His high jump mark of 1.87 meters was a personal best and ranks fifth all-time at Coker, while his leap of 12.82 meters in the triple jump was also a new person best.
