Women's Tennis Falls to Tusculum
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Catawba lost 7-0 to 16th-ranked Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis action on Saturday afternoon at Barber Park. The Pioneers up their record to 15-2 overall and 10-0 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 13-8 and 4-6.
Despite not taking a point, Catawba played the SAC Champions tough. Sophie Hirsch and Una Pandurevic lost in a tiebreaker at #2 doubles and Erisa Onchi and Carolina Correia fell only 6-4 as Tusculum went up 1-0 entering singles.
Two of the six singles matches went to three sets. Hirsch at #2 won her opening set before eventually falling. Pandurevic also managed to win her opening set at #3 in her three-set loss. Lauren Laughton lost in a tight two-set match, falling 7-5, 6-3.
The teams will face each other again on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the first round of the SAC Tournament in Greeneville, Tenn.
