Women's Golf Ties For Ninth at Battle of Old South


BLUFFTON, S.C. -- Catawba finished up in a tie for ninth at the Battle at Old South Women’s Golf Tournament, hosted by UNC Pembroke at the 5874-yard, par-72 Old South Golf Links. The Catawba Indians bettered its first round by a dozen shots on Sunday to finish at 618.

Lee University won the tournament with a second-day two-under-par team total of 286. They came from three shots back, posting a 580 total to win by eight strokes over Florida Southern and 10 over first-round leader Wingate.

Kaley Barts led Catawba, shaving a shot off her opening round with a 74 on Sunday. She finished 13th with a 149 total. Sarah Coltrane matched Barts’ 74 as she came back from an opening 82 to place 41st. Sandra Brink also tied for 41st with a 156 score.

Lee’s Carson McKie overcame a two-shot deficit to take medallist honors. She carded a four-under-par 68 on Sunday to finish at 139. Teammate Haverly Harrold and Loren Perez, of Florida Southern, finished four shots back at one-under-par for the two rounds.

The women will next tee it up on its home course, the Country Club of Salisbury, in the Patsy Rendleman Invitational on October 7-8.
