Barts Shoots Record Five-Under 67 in Opening Round of Rendleman

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba senior Kaley Barts broke her own record for lowest score in school history, opening with a five-under-par 67 at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational Women’s Golf Tournament on Monday. She had previously carded a 68 two years ago at the Rendleman tournament. Catawba is hosting the event at the 5,973-yard, par-72 Country Club of Salisbury.

As a team, Catawba also set a record, posting a new one-round score of 297 to lead by a shot after the opening round. The previous low of 299 was set last year at the Old South County Club. The Catawba Indians hold the one-shot edge over Limestone and Lenoir-Rhyne. Nine teams are within 10 shots of the lead.

Barts collected seven birdies during her record round and has a three-shot lead over Alicia Fajardo, of Coker, and Ainee O’Connor, of Lenoir-Rhyne. Sandra Brink posted a 74 and sits in 11th spot, while Haley Barajas, playing as an individual, turned in a 75 and stands 16th.

The tournament will conclude with another 18 holes on Tuesday.
