Football Drops Season Finale to #6 Lenoir-Rhyne
SALISBURY, N.C. – Sixth-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne completed an undefeated regular season with a 49-3 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference football action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Bears move to 11-0 and 8-0 and advance to the NCAA II playoffs. The Catawba Indians end their season at 1-10 and 0-8.
Grayson Willingham threw for 129 and two scores and ran for another to lead the Bears. Ameen Stevens led a 300-yard ground attack with 71 yards and a score. Ryan Carter added 67 yards and a touchdown.
Kaylon Wade threw for 130 yards in the loss for Catawba, completing 15-of-26 passes with a pair of interceptions. Dominic Burnam had three receptions for 58 yards.
Lenoir-Rhyne marched 73 yards on 13 plays in its initial drive to go up 7-0 with 4:55 left in the opening quarter. Catawba got its lone points as it answered that drive with a 39-yard field goal by Clayton Crile. Burnam keyed the scored with a 50-yard catch and run to the LR 25.
The rest of the game belong to the Bears, who added three scores in the second quarter to lead 28-3 at the break. The Lenoir-Rhyne defense limited Catawba to 174 total yards, had three sacks and forced three turnovers. Jeremy Harvey had an interception for Catawba and Dorrian Bagley made nine tackls.
