Women's Golf Third After Opening Round of the Battle at Hilton Head


HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Catawba sits in a tie for third after Monday’s first round of the Battle at Hilton Head Women’s Golf Tournament. Lincoln Memorial is hosting the two-day event at the 5,934-yard, par-72 Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes.

Catawba shot a 299 on Monday and are three shots behind Lee. It marked just the fourth time in school history that the women have shot under 300 for a round. Three of those have come this season. Limestone is a shot ahead of Catawba, who is tied with Missouri-St. Louis.

Individually, Kaley Barts and Sarah Coltrane both carded even-par rounds of 72 and are in third place. Emma Thomgren, of Missouri-St. Louis leads after round one with a two-under-par 70. She is a shot ahead of UNC Pembroke’s Parker Melting.

As a team, Catawba ranked just behind UNC Pembroke and Limestone with 12 birdies in the round. UNCP posted 14 and Limestone 13. Coltrane led the Lady Indians with four birdies, followed by Hailey Barajas with three.
