ANDERSON, SC -- Denzail Jones made 9-of-14 shots for 19 points and paced the host Anderson Trojans to a convincing 95-65 decision over Catawba Saturday night at the Abney Athletic Center. Anderson moved to 18-4 overall and 13-1 in the South Atlantic Conference as the Indians dropped to 6-16 and 3-11.
Anderson shot 57% for the game hitting 10 three-point shots and never trailed. The Trojans led 25-10 halfway through the first half on a jumper by Jones as Catawba committed nine turnovers in the same span and 24 for the game.
The Indians did out-rebound the Trojans 39-26 with Tyrece Little (Greenville, NC/Rose HS) and Keon Moore (Colerain, NC/Bertie HS) collecting 12 and 11 respectively. Moore scored 21 and Little 17 for Catawba.
The Indians got little help from their bench as they were outscored 39-18 by Anderson’s reserves. Stephen Cobb came off the bench to net 12 points on 4-for-4 shooting from three-point land. Chandler Hash also came in canned three treys for the Trojans.
Anderson led 48-31 at the break and picked up where it left off in the second half running out to a 31-point lead at 77-46 after a Cobb three-pointer with ten minutes remaining. The closest Catawba would come was at 86-63 on a Moore free throw at the 4:21 mark as the Trojans were in cruise control by then.
Chris Watson (Reidsville, NC/Reidsville HS/Rockingham CC) contributed 12 points for the Indians and hit two threes as well.
The Indians travel to Lenoir-Rhyne for a SAC contest on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 8 pm.
