VOLLEYBALL SPLITS A PAIR OF SATURDAY MATCHES AT PFEIFFER INV.

MISENHEIMER, NC -- Catawba split two matches in volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Pfeiffer Invitational at Merner Gym.  The Catawba Indians now stand at 2-4 after sweeping Winston-Salem State and falling in five sets to Queens.

The Lady Indians rolled to a 25-11, 25-10, 25-13 victory over WSSU.  Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co. HS) and Rachel Gallup (Fredericksburg, VA/Courtland HS) each collected 10 kills to pace Catawba.  Whitmer added 10 digs and five aces.  Freshman Abby Pennington (Blacksburg, VA/Blacksburg HS) posted eight kills and four blocks. 

Against Queens, Catawba won the opening set, and led 2-1 after three sets, but saw Queens take the final two to win the game by the scores of 22-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 15-12.  Whitmer tallied 22 kills and added 13 digs in the loss.  Alli Parrish (Zebulon, NC/Smithfield-Selma HS) and Jordan Ray (Boonville, NC/Starmount HS) each had 10 kills, while Pennington posted seven blocks.

Catawba returns to action on Friday when it plays Tusculum at 7 p.m.  That marks the home opener for the Lady Indians and also the beginning of league play.
