THIRD OT LOSS DENIES WOMEN'S SOCCER UPSET AT LR

HICKORY, NC -- Lenoir-Rhyne scored early in overtime to take a 2-1 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Belk Track.  The Bears, ranked 25th in NCAA II, improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-4 and 0-2.

Lenoir-Rhyne peppered the goal with 30 shots, but it was Lady Indians that got on board first.  Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic) scored from the six-yard-box just past the hour to give Catawba a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute.

The Bears pulled level with 15 minutes to play as Leah Mullins scored unassisted.  Lenoir-Rhyne got the winner just two minutes into the extra time when Carley Griffin headed home a cross from Mullins.  The Bears held a 30-12 edge in shots and a 13-5 advantage on goal.  Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS) made 11 saves in goal for Catawba.

Catawba returns home on Saturday to face Newberry at noon.
