SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba rolled to a 7-0 win over visiting Chowan in women's soccer action on Wednesday night at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 5-4 overall, while the Hawks fall to 0-8.
Catawba built a 3-0 lead in the opening half. Sophie Waller (Watford, ENGLAND/St. Michael’s Catholic) notched her first career goal to get the scoring started in the 11th minute. Taylor Arrowood (Matthew, NC/Weddington HS) added a second goal in the 25th minute and Alex Hulsey (San Diego, CA/Parker HS) sent in a loose ball after a corner kick in the 32nd minute for the halftime edge.
Athena Bless (Asheboro, NC/SW Randolph HS) scored back-to-back goals in a 35 seconds span to erase any doubt of the outcome. Both goals came from shots just outside the box. Ana Toole (Greenville, SC/Mann HS) and Karen Presnell (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS) wrapped up the scoring in the final 10 minutes.
Catawba outshot Chowan 47-1 with a 28-1 edge on goal. The Lady Indians also earned 17 corner kicks. Hawk keeper (Jennifer Harvell (Halifax, NC) recorded 21 saves. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD), who came on for Catawba starting keeper Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV), had the lone save for the Lady Indians.
Catawba hops back into league action on Friday as it travels to Mars Hill for 5 p.m. match.
