MEN'S SWIMMING OPEN WITH WIN OVER MARS HILL

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba opened its swim season on Saturday afternoon, hosting Mars Hill at Johnson Pool.  The Catawba men claimed a 104-80 win, while the Mars Hill women earned a 97-85 victory.

Freshman Sebastian Holmberg (Akersberga, SWEDEN) helped lead the Catawba men.  He won two events and set a school record in the 100 back with a time of 51.73.  He also took a win in the 100 fly and was a member of the 200 medley relay team that missed a school mark by .09 seconds.

In addition to Holmberg, freshman Jevgenij Gamper (Vilnius, LITHUANIA) also won two events and was on the 200 medley relay team.  Individually he won the 50 breast and 100 breast.  Other winners were Andrew McCollister (Rockwell, NC/Salisbury HS) in the 1000 free and Theo Zatterstrom (Stockholm, SWEDEN) in the 200 free. 

On the women's side, Katia Kruglov (Karmiel, ISRAEL), Janin Kassner (Giesen, GERMANY) and freshman Nadine Brockmann (Hamberg, GERMANY) each won two events.  Kruglov won the 200 free and 100 back, Kassner the 50 and 100 breast and Brockmann the 50 and 100 free.  Freshman Filippa Wallin (Helsingborg, SWEDEN) won the 50 back.
