ANOTHER DRAMATIC WIN FOR WOMEN'S SOCCER AT CARSON-NEWMAN
JEFFERSON CITY, TN -- Catawba scored in the final minute to notch a 2-1 win over host Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at McCown Field. The Catawba Indians pick up their fifth straight win to improve to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the SAC. The Eagles fall to 2-9 and 0-5.
Carson-Newman had pulled even with just over three minutes remaining when Dana Stringle converted a penalty kick. With time running down, freshman Sophie Waller (Watford, ENGLAND/St. Michael's Catholic) drove in a corner kick that deflected off a C-N defender for the winning tally with 43 seconds to play.
Catawba scored the opening goal inside the final five minutes of the first half. Karen Presnell (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS) put in a rebound on an initial shot from Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario/CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic) that was saved in the 42nd minute.
The Lady Indians held a 19-11 edge in shots and drew six corners to three for Carson-Newman. Catawba keeper Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS) and her C-N counterpart, Kendra Ivans, each made five saves.
Catawba puts its win streak on the line Wednesday at Frock Field as the Lady Indians host Wingate at 5 p.m.Related Item: Box Score
