MEN'S SOCCER SEASON ENDS WITH 1-0 LOSS AT LMU

HARROGATE, TN -- The Catawba men's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 1-0 loss to host Lincoln Memorial in the first round of the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament  on Wednesday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Field.  The Railsplitters, seeded third, improve to 12-3-1 and advance to Friday's semifinals.  The Catawba Indians end their campaign at 9-7-3.

Conference Player of the Year Mario Pinto tallied the lone goal of the match in the 11th minute to lift LMU.  Pinto collected a cross from Erik Bidinger at the top of the box and scored his league-leading 21st goal.  Marcel Barwanietz posted two saves in recording the shutout.

The Railsplitters attempted 28 shots on the windy afternoon, but put only eight on target.  Evan Harvey (Apex, NC/Apex HS) had one save over the first 30 minutes, while Frankie Cardelle (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS) had six saves over the final 60 minutes.  Two of Catawba's 10 shots were on goal with the Indians holding a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
