The Catawba College Athletic Training Department aspires to be a leader in providing quality healthcare services to all student-athletes. A team of multi-skilled professionals, utilizing current research, educational knowledge, and state-of-the-art equipment strives to provide a comprehensive and progressive approach to assuring the well-being of each student-athlete.
The Catawba College Athletic Training staff strives to set a high standard of care and excellence for our intercollegiate athletic programs. We believe prevention, care and rehabilitation are the core issues in a vast interdisciplinary function of Athletic Training. The athletic training staff is dedicated and committed to providing the best care that we can within our resource capability. Our injury treatment, care and rehabilitation protocols are designed to help decrease athletic injuries and promote improved recovery time. Our multifaceted approach includes combining strength, flexibility, endurance and sport specific functional activities to assist a quick and safe return to play.
The Catawba College Athletic Training Staff promotes the most current and comprehensive care available to our intercollegiate student-athletes. The prevention of athletic injuries is one of the most important components to an individual's success as well as to our intercollegiate athletic teams’ success. Unfortunately athletic activities can result student-athletes becoming injured through the course of play. The Catawba College Athletic Training Staff will provide care for the student-athlete from injury onset to diagnosis to treatment & rehabilitation and eventually to his/her return to play. Returning our athletes to their pre-injury level of competition as quickly and safely possible is the ultimate goal of our athletic training staff.
Even after a team's competitive season is completed, the athletic training staff will attempt to follow-up on all injuries to the athlete's and focus on getting him or her back to their pre-injury status.
The John Coble Athletic Training Room is located on the 1st floor of the Abernethy PE Center. The athletic training room includes numerous treatment modalities including electric stimulation, ultrasound, hydrotherapy and cryotherapy. This facility will service the following athletic teams: volleyball, m/w cross-country, m/w basketball, m/w swimming, m/w tennis, m/w golf and baseball. The Lamar Dorton Athletic Training Room is located in the Hayes Field House and this facility will service the following athletic teams: football, m/w soccer, m/w lacrosse and softball. The Lamar Dorton Athletic Training Room is equipped with electric stimulation, ultrasound, hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, cold laser, soft-tissue oscillation electrical stimulation and the Biodex computerized rehabilitation machine.
Our allied healthcare team includes our orthopedic team physicians, our primary-care sports medicine physicians, physical therapist, team dentist and a local pharmacy. Additionally we have access to a neurosurgeon, maxilla-facial specialist, a cardiologist, optometrist, oral surgeon, internal medicine physicians and general surgeons as needed. Located just 5 minutes from our campus is Rowan Regional Medical Center and two local urgent care centers. X-ray is on-site in the Hayes Field House during home football games.
Whatever the needs are to assist our student-athletes to return back to play, the athletic training staff at Catawba College dedicated to providing our athletes with the best care possible.
