- One of the most versatile and talented athletes ever to play for Catawba College
- Lettered in football and baseball for four years, track and basketball for one year. Football: All-Conference, team captain, Owens-Illinois Defensive Player Award. Baseball: All-Conference, All-State. Skilled at several positions: in football- defensive end, guard, tackle, fullback; baseball- catcher, Awarded Aycock Athletic Medal as a junior.
- Coached at Mt. Airy and Greensboro Grimsley High Schools, 1963 & 1964, returning to Catawba College in 1964 as a member of Physical Education Department faculty and athletic coaching staff. Was assistant football coach and head baseball coach for ten years. Earned "Coach of the Year" in Carolinas Conference baseball 1970 & 1974 and "Coach of the Year" in NAIA District 26 in 1974
