- One of the most honored athletes in Catawba College sports history
- In senior football season, was named to first unit, Associated Press College Division All-American team; first unit, All-America College Division, selected by American Football Coaches
Association; and NAIA All-American team. Also selected for North-South Game played in Miami, Fla. on Christmas Day, and named to All-Carolinas Conference and All-NAIA District 26 teams.
- Also outstanding track and field athlete, setting new records in Carolinas Conference and NAIA District 26 shot put and discus competition. In 1973 finished sixith in discus and seventh in shot
put a NAIA National Track and Field Championships.
- Selected in fifth round of the National Football League draft by the Baltimore Colts. Played left offensive tackle for seven years, starting in that position for six and a half years retiring in 1979
